TD47 Products Transparent heat-shrink tubing is commonly used for labelling cables, after which a transparent heat-shrink sleeve is placed over the label to protect it. This transparent heat-shrink tubing from TD47 Products falls within Class H-5, which means there is adhesive on the inside of the tubing. Thanks to the natural rubber adhesive, this results in a crystal-clear finish once the cable has been shrunk.
TD47 Products’ heat-shrink tubing is UV-resistant. Furthermore, it can be used at temperatures ranging from -55°C to +125°C.
TD47 heat-shrink tubing is supplied in a dispenser box. A separate rack is also available to hold six dispenser boxes – handy and organised on your workbench or in your van!
This size of TD47 heat-shrink tubing is ideal for pre-assembled XLR cables. Thanks to its 4:1 shrink ratio, its 24 mm unshrunk diameter fits over an XLR plug, allowing you to add company stickers or a colour-coded length indicator to pre-assembled XLR cables straight from the factory!
Of course, you can also use this to apply a heat-shrink sleeve over the label on the XLR plug.
How does the TD47 H-5 heat-shrink tubing work?
Heat the heat-shrink tubing with a heat gun. The heat causes the tubing to shrink tightly around the cable or connection, exposing the adhesive layer on the inside.
Shrinkage begins at around 70 °C. Full shrinkage is achieved at approximately 100 °C.
Move the heat gun gently and evenly back and forth whilst heating. This ensures the heat is distributed evenly and prevents localised overheating, unevenness or damage to the heat-shrink tubing.
Tip: heat the heat-shrink tubing gradually until it fits snugly and a small amount of adhesive becomes visible at the ends. This way, you know that the adhesive layer has bonded properly and you’ll achieve an optimal seal.
